Autocross is a simple and fun form of grassroots motor sport. Basically it involves driving a car around a course set up in a grass or stubble field. While on the course the competitor is being timed to one tenth of a second. In our region autocross is run with 4 cars at a time on the course which usually results in some really competitive driving.
On a typical event a competitor will have one practice run at the course. This usually is 2 laps. Next will be a series of timed heats consisting of 3 laps of the course. After 3 or 4 ( and sometimes more ) heats, a competitors two fastest times are combined to give a total for the day and this will be used to determine a class position. From these class positions the top 16 fastest times are then put forward to the finals. The finals consist of one four lap run at the course and the person with the fastest time overall wins the day.
The ANECCC championship consists of nine classes which divide the drivers up depending on the type and engine capacity of the vehicle and the drivers age. Competitors can start the sport from age 14 which is proving to be a popular way for young drivers to enjoy a reasonable priced form of motor sport.
To be able to compete in autocross a driver will have to join a local car club to obtain a club card, apply for a competition licence from the Motor Sports Association ( MSA ) and purchase a crash helmet and fireproof overalls as well as preparing a car to meet the technical regulations.

Did you know marshals are vital to the running of any motorsport event, from Autocross to Rallying, Touring cars to Formula One?
Did you also know you can marshal for FREE!! - Yes that’s right, all you have to do to become a marshal is turn up on the day and join in the fun, no experience required.
We have a dedicated team of marshals that will guide you through how to marshal safely at the events we attend. Marshalling gives you the chance to get up close to the action but more importantly, ensure spectator safety and also that the drivers are racing safely but at the time competitively.
What’s more as a thank you from the organisers, a marshal pack is provided on the day, including a packet of crisps, a chocolate bar and a can of pop. You even receive a food voucher for our onsite burger van that entitles you to some food and a drink, again FREE OF CHARGE.
After trying your hand at marshalling you can become a member of Cramlington Motorclub for £5 per year and this entitles you to an end of year Marshal event/night out. Also, in previous years marshals have been Go-Karting for FREE as Cramlington Motorclub have paid for those marshals that have helped at more than THREE AUTOCROSS EVENTS during the season.
£5 doesn’t go far these days, but that’s really all it costs to become a member of a fantastic team and help out at motorsport events around the region.
